When I first bought the book River of Traps I was living in a small Northern New Mexico mountain town. I lived right next door to the Mayordomo of all the acequias in the village. The book takes place in the small village outside of Las Tramapas, New Mexico and chronicles the life of Jacobo Romero as he teaches William and Alex the ways of life in the village.
This book is still one of my favorite books of all time. If you have never read it or even looked through it, I suggest you do. The author and photographer for the book, William DeBuys and Alex Harris, will be speaking on October 30th, 2008 at 6PM at the College of Santa Fe. The talk will be in Tipton Hall and is free and open to the public.
