Call for Entries: Beyond the Assignment

Beyond the Assignment

Every now and then you have an assignment that sticks with you and you can't get it out of your head - so much so that you go back, over and over again, on your own dime, becoming more involved and personally committed, exploring the subjects more deeply each time. Or maybe there's that story you never could find a home for in the mainstream media, but you knew it was important and did it anyways.

For the January issue of FractionJ we're looking for these types of long-term, well developed and 'personal' journalistic / documentary explorations of the world around us. Work that goes beyond the assignment. Please note: Photographer can be concerned and involved, but stories still must abide by generally accepted journalistic conventions and standards.
This issue will be curated by Jason Houston of Orion Magazine.
Details:
- the deadline is January 2, 2011
-Please send 5 photographs (no bigger than 1000 pixels wide) and a short statement about the work to fractionj@gmail.com with the subject line "beyond the assignment"
